It is strongly recommended that this data is directly acquired from the distributor described above or from another USGS Biological Resources Division server and not indirectly through other sources which may have changed the data in some way. The distributor makes no claims as to the data's suitability for other purposes.
Use_Constraints:
Acknowledgement of the U.S. Geological Survey, National Wetlands Research Center as a data source would be appreciated in products developed from these data, and such acknowledgment as is standard for citation and legal practices for data source is expected by users of this data. Sharing new data layers developed directly from these data would also be appreciated by U.S. Geological Survey, National Wetlands Research Center staff. Users should be aware that comparison with other data sets for the same area from other time periods may be inaccurate due to inconsistencies resulting from changes in mapping conventions, data collection, and computer processes over time. The distributor shall not be liable for improper or incorrect use of this data, based on the description of appropriate/inappropriate uses described in this metadata document. These data are not legal documents and are not to be used as such.

Data_Quality_Information:
Attribute_Accuracy:
Attribute_Accuracy_Report:
The sampling was based on the USGS 7.5 Minute quadrangles with only half of the quads being visited (quads with more than one-half water were generally not sampled.) Sampling of the remaining quads were done in a checkerboard fashion with only alternate quads surveyed. To ensure uniformity and comparability within the Atlas, atlassers followed guidelines in surveying and reporting. The data collection was based on absence or presence of each species. If possible, all habitat within the quadrangles were visited to ensure that species were representatives for the entire quad and not just one habitat type. There may be some error in the accuracy of the data set. The data was collected by different individuals who utilized different methods for recording the data. In addition, the type of data collected was based on the judgement of the data collector.
Logical_Consistency_Report:
The accuracy of the data is not based on a formal quantitative assessment. Procedures for data collection were as flexible as possible. Atlassers were required to visit their quads at least twice and for a minimum of 10 party hours. Some atlassers may have visited sites the minimal number of times. Atlassers were encouraged to seek evidence to put each species in the highest category possible. Nest record cards were used when nests were found.
Completeness_Report:
Due to the high number of quadrangles in Louisiana (877), quadrangles were omitted due to high land-water ratio or non-accessible. Urban, suburban areas, and orchards with small trees were not acceptable for data sites.

Overview_Description:
Entity_and_Attribute_Overview:
This data set consists of vector data for the Louisiana Breeding Bird Survey Atlas. The attributes for the data include: shape, area, perimeter, labbs#, labbs-id, Gis-fig, Quadname, and a 10 digit code for each species name (consists of an alpha or an alpha-numerical value). Each species for each visited quadrangle contains a value indicating absence or presence of the species. The possible choices for this value are as followed: A-confirmed, B-probable, C-possible, I-incomplete, NS-not sampled, and X-unknown.
