Description:
Abstract:
This dataset contains vector line map information of various pipelines throughout the State of Louisiana. The vector data contain selected base categories of geographic features, and characteristics of these features, in digital form. The information was derived from existing USGS Digital Line Graphs.
Purpose:
To extract a coverage of pipelines within the State of Louisiana to the State boundaries.

Access_Constraints:
It is strongly recommended that this data is directly acquired from the distributor described above or from another USGS Biological Resources Division server and not indirectly through other sources which may have changed the data in some way. The distributor makes no claims as to the data's suitability for other purposes.
Use_Constraints:
Acknowledgement of the U.S. Geological Survey, National Wetlands Research Center as a data source would be appreciated in products developed from these data, and such acknowledgment as is standard for citation and legal practices for data source is expected by users of this data. Sharing new data layers developed directly from these data would also be appreciated by U.S. Geological Survey, National Wetlands Research Center staff. Users should be aware that comparison with other data sets for the same area from other time periods may be inaccurate due to inconsistencies resulting from changes in mapping conventions, data collection, and computer processes over time. The distributor shall not be liable for improper or incorrect use of this data, based on the description of appropriate/inappropriate uses described in this metadata document. These data are not legal documents and are not to be used as such.

Data_Quality_Information:
Attribute_Accuracy:
Attribute_Accuracy_Report:
The accuracy is not based on a formal quantitative assessment. Field checking was not performed for this assignment. To attain a better estimate of accuracy, a formal re-evaluation of the location and length of pipelines in Louisiana would be necessary.
Quantitative_Attribute_Accuracy_Assessment:
Attribute_Accuracy_Value:
A string value (code) as well as a numerical length is assigned to each attribute in this project.
Attribute_Accuracy_Explanation:
The codes comprise the attribute for this data set. The codes include: Submerged Pipeline, Powerline, Landing Strip, Substation, Arbitrary Line Extension, Power Station, and Pumping Station.
Logical_Consistency_Report:
The vector data (arcs) have been cleaned in an editing environment. Each line has one and only one attribute.
Completeness_Report:
Processing of digital data follows conventions and standard methodologies for the time period and within limitations of available workstation equipment at the date of data development.
Positional_Accuracy:
Horizontal_Positional_Accuracy:
Horizontal_Positional_Accuracy_Report:
The accuracy of this data meets the accuracy of the National Map Accuracy Standards.
Quantitative_Horizontal_Positional_Accuracy_Assessment:
Horizontal_Positional_Accuracy_Value: 40 feet
Horizontal_Positional_Accuracy_Explanation:
The accuracy of the dataset meets the National Map Accuracy Standards which is met by every 1:100,000K DLG utilized in this project. The National Map Accuracy Standards' horizontal accuracy requires that at least 90 percent of points tested are within 0.02 inches of the true position.
Vertical_Positional_Accuracy:
Vertical_Positional_Accuracy_Report:
The accuracy of the dataset meets the National Map Accuracy Standards, which is met by every 1:100,000K DLG utilized in this project. National Map Accuracy Standards' vertical accuracy requires that at least 90% of well defined points tested be within one half contour interval of the correct value.

Process_Step:
Process_Description:
The pipeline data was extracted from existing USGS digital line graphs. Digital line graphs depict information about geographic features on or near the surface of the Earth, terrain, and political and administrative units. The digital line graphs were digitized from the USGS source quadrangle by the US Mapping Division or one of their contractors. All DLG data distributed by the USGS are DLG Level 3, which means the data contain a full range of attribute codes, have full topological structuring, and have passed certain quality-control checks. The final data is in the form of an ARC/INFO coverage.
